Taiwan - An Urban/Rural Divide
The unseen cracks within the system
Taiwan experiences significant socio-economic disparities between urban and rural areas, often extend into educational systems and family dynamics.
After visiting over 90 elementary schools throughout Taiwan, we observed that the most pressing issues the next generation of Taiwanese children include a lack of familial connections and a diminished sense of love and belonging, both of which affect personal growth and identity.
These challenges affect both urban and rural regions, with the urban-rural divide merely highlighting different underlying causes, yet the outcomes are surprisingly similar.
In Taiwan's most rural townships, many schools face the challenge of cross-generational caregiving, as grandparents often raise children while their parents migrate to urban centers for better job prospects. Conversely, in urban areas, dual-income families lead to reduced parental contact for children. In an era marked by nuclear families, where parental involvement is crucial for early childhood development, this scenario illustrates a troubling epidemic that transcends Taiwan's urban-rural divide.

The Hug of Hearts Movement
擁抱心運動
The Hug of Hearts movement is an initiative featured at many of our events and campaigns, at promoting the benefits of sharing a warm embrace with loved ones and encouraging the people of Taiwan to participate. Unlike in Western cultures, hugging is not as commonly practiced here in Taiwan, so we believe that a daily hug can help improve well-being and advocate for this new hugging culture. A hug a day keeps the doctor (or perhaps more aptly, the therapist) away!
Growing Together Initiative
傳愛進校園
In 2019, Taiwan launched a 12-year curriculum emphasizing mindfulness and spiritual exploration in education. Seizing this opportunity, we began implementing these principles in elementary schools nationwide. We conducted immersive family seminars to strengthen parent-child relationships, guided by our core values of love, self-worth, and nurturing kindness.
Goodness Love Festival
善愛嘉年華
In 2022 we launched the first annual 'Goodness Love Festival' in collaboration with TAITRA, through an annual event celebrating kindness and compassion, combining with elements of other local NGOs, local artists, family friendly activities and great food. During our festival we also fund and run a summer camp for kids of rural townships in Taiwan to attend the festival and take back valuable experiences and memories.
